Karongwe’s commitment to sustainable craftsmanship

At Karongwe, we take pride in crafting exquisite furniture while ensuring responsible sourcing of materials. As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we are making an important transition in the wood we use for our furniture.

Kiaat (Pterocarpus angolensis) is currently listed under CITES Appendix II, meaning international trade requires permits to regulate its use and prevent over-exploitation. While Kiaat remains a sought-after material and is still available to our clients, Karongwe is embracing a more sustainable alternative—Blackwood.

Blackwood offers outstanding beauty and durability. Its rich, golden-brown heartwood with streaks of reddish-brown makes it a highly decorative timber, perfect for fine craftsmanship. Additionally, Blackwood is practical—it dries easily with minimal shrinkage, ensuring long-lasting quality.
